Romania Jobless Rate Steady at 5.8%

Romania’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 6% in February 2026, unchanged from the previous month, holding at its lowest level since September 2025 over the recent two-month period. The number of unemployed persons rose by 4.2 thousand month-on-month to 494.7 thousand, while it declined by 6.8 thousand year-on-year. By gender, the unemployment rate for men increased to 6.1% from 6% in the previous month, while for women it also edged up to 6% from 5.9%. Among individuals aged 25-74, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate ticked higher to 4.6% from 4.5% in the previous month, with 4.6% for men and 4.5% for women, who accounted for 71.6% of the total number of unemployed in February. In February 2025, the jobless rate was higher at 6.1%.

This represents the lowest level since September 2025, as the number of unemployed decreased by 8 thousand month-on-month to 490.5 thousand. By gender, the unemployment rate for men remained stable at 6%, while for women it decreased to 5.9% from 6.2% in December. Among individuals aged 25–74, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged down to 4.5% in January from 4.7% in the previous month. In January 2025, the overall unemployment rate stood at 6%.
