Romania Current Account Deficit Shrinks in May

Romania's current account deficit narrowed to EUR 2.71 billion in May 2026 from EUR 2.97 billion in the same month a year earlier.
The improvement was driven by a 3.6% reduction in the goods deficit to EUR 2.58 billion, alongside a 3.6% increase in the services surplus to EUR 1.01 billion.
The primary income deficit also narrowed slightly to EUR 1.24 billion from EUR 1.26 billion.
Meanwhile, the secondary income account swung to a EUR 76 million surplus from a EUR 32 million deficit a year earlier.
In the first five months of 2026, Romania's current account deficit narrowed to EUR 11.4 billion, compared with EUR 12.1 billion in the corresponding period of 2025.
