Romania Current Account Deficit Narrows in April

Romania’s current account deficit narrowed to EUR 2,684 million in April 2026 from EUR 2,947 million in the corresponding month of the previous year.

This marked the largest shortfall in four months, as the goods account deficit decreased to EUR 2,755 million from EUR 2,763 million, while the services account surplus expanded to EUR 1,170 million from EUR 995 million.

Additionally, the primary account shortfall shrank to EUR 951 million from EUR 1,040 million.

On the other hand, the secondary income deficit widened to EUR 148 million from EUR 140 million.

Over the first four months of the year, Romania’s current account deficit narrowed to EUR 7,981 million, compared to a deficit of EUR 9,101 million in the same period a year earlier.

Romania Current Account Deficit Shrinks in March
Romania's current account posted a deficit of EUR 2,394 million in March 2026, narrowing from a EUR 2,515 million deficit in the same month a year earlier. The secondary income shifted to a surplus of EUR 273 million from a deficit of EUR 77 million a year earlier, while the goods account deficit edged down slightly to EUR 2,777 million from EUR 2,785 million. Meanwhile, the services account surplus decreased to EUR 1,125 million from EUR 1,240 million, and the primary income deficit widened to EUR 1,016 million from EUR 894 million. For the first quarter of 2026, Romania's current account narrowed to EUR 5,337 million, compared to a deficit of EUR 6,154 million in the same period a year earlier.

Romania Current Account Deficit Narrows in February
Romania’s current account posted a deficit of EUR 2,322 million in February 2026, narrowing from EUR 2,538 million in the same month of the previous year. The primary income deficit narrowed to EUR 691 million from EUR 890 million in February 2025, while the goods account deficit narrowed to EUR 2,368 million in February 2026, from EUR 2,832 million. On the other hand, the services account surplus narrowed to EUR 1,010 million, compared with EUR 1,138 million a year earlier. At the same time, the secondary income shortfall widened to EUR 274 million from EUR 77 million. Considering the first two months of the year, Romania’s current account deficit narrowed to EUR 3,191 million, compared with EUR 3,639 million in the same period of the previous year.
