Portugal Industrial Activity Contracts for 4th Month

Portugal’s industrial production fell 3.8% year-on-year in August 2026, marking the fourth consecutive month of contraction, following an upwardly revised 0.8% decline in July.
Energy output declined further, falling 4.7% after a 1.3% decrease in July and extending its contraction to a sixth consecutive month.
Consumer goods production also weakened, declining 2.6% after a 1.2% drop.
Within this category, durable-goods output fell 6.6%, reversing an 8.6% increase, while non-durable goods declined 1.9%, although the pace of contraction eased from 2.9%.
Capital-goods production plunged 12.1% after falling 2.9% in July.
In contrast, intermediate-goods output continued to expand, although growth slowed to 0.6% from 0.8%.
On a monthly basis, industrial production fell 2%, reversing a 0.4% increase in July.
