Polish Consumer Mood Holds Steady in December

Poland’s consumer sentiment indicator remained steady at -9.9 in December 2025, unchanged from the previous month, as households showed mixed assessments of the economic outlook.

Perceptions of the past year’s economic situation improved to -20.6 from -22.8, while expectations for the year ahead slipped to -16.9 from -15.2.

Household financial conditions strengthened, rising for both the past year (-7.0 vs -7.5) and the next year (-5.2 vs -7.3), while the current ability to save jumped (-0.1 vs -4.1), accompanied by gains in projected financial conditions (15.1 vs 11.8) and future saving expectations (14.3 vs 11.5), reflecting improved confidence in personal liquidity.

However, some indicators pointed to continued caution, with the financial situation for the next year declining (-4.0 vs -1.9), price trends over the past 12 months softening (52.0 vs 57.9), and the propensity to make major purchases easing (-2.9 vs -2.6).

Poland’s consumer sentiment indicator rose to -9.6 in January 2025 from -9.9 in the previous month. Expectations regarding household financial conditions over the next twelve months were less negative, with the index rising to -2.8 from -4 in December, alongside a slight improvement in expectations for the economic situation in the coming year, which increased to -16.6 from -16.9. In addition, assessments of major purchases became less pessimistic, improving to -1 from -2.9, while the propensity to save jumped to 16 from 14.3. Concerns about future unemployment also eased, with the indicator moving to -23.2 from -21.5. In contrast, perceptions of current household financial conditions deteriorated slightly to -5.4 in January from -5.2 in the prior month, and assessments of the current economic situation worsened to -22.1 from -20.6. The leading consumer confidence indicator, which tracks expected consumption trends, increased by 0.3 percentage points to -6.7 in January 2025.

Poland’s consumer sentiment indicator increased to -9.9 in November 2025 from -10.9 in October. Assessments of the economic situation were less negative for both the past year (-22.8 vs -24.2) and the next year (-15.2 vs -16.1). Spending intentions also improved, with consumers being less pessimistic about current purchasing conditions (-2.6 vs -5.0) and future purchases (-27.8 vs -29.7). Meanwhile, views on household finances deteriorated further over the past year (-7.3 vs -5.3) but were less negative for the year ahead (-1.9 vs -4.0). Perceptions of current savings worsened (–4.1 vs –1.1), while expectations for future savings softened (11.5 vs 13.4). Among components outside the main index, concerns about future unemployment increased (-24.3 vs -19.6), while worries about price changes next year eased (21.6 vs 24.2). The leading consumer confidence indicator, tracking expected consumption trends, also fell 0.9 points to 7.5.
