Mexico Unemployment Inches Up in August

Mexico’s unemployment rate rose to 2.9% in August 2025 from 2.8% in July, equivalent to 1.8 million people without work, and above market expectations of 2.8%.
It was the highest jobless rate since September 2024.
The rate was 3.1% among women (834,000) and 2.8% among men (1 million).
By education, 11.2% of the unemployed had not completed secondary school, while 88.5% held higher levels of education.
The largest share of jobseekers was in the 25–44 age group (46.1%), followed by 15–24 (35.2%).
Regarding unemployment duration, 45.3% had been without work for one month or less, while 33.2% were unemployed between one and three months.
