Mexico Car Exports Rise Sharply in April

Mexico’s car exports rose 11.4% year-over-year to 286,317 units in April 2026, following a 4.2% increase in March.

The growth was driven by strong export performances from Stellantis (131.2%), Audi (66.5%), BMW Group (58.8%), Volkswagen (44.2%), Mazda (29.3%), and Kia (21.9%).

In contrast, exports declined for Acura (-26.3%), Ford (-1.8%), General Motors (-11.1%), Mercedes-Benz (-1.3%), Nissan (-17.3%), and Toyota (-1.2%).

In the first four months of the year, Mexico’s vehicle exports totaled 1,081,948 units.

Mexico Car Exports Rise 4.2% in March
Mexico’s car exports climbed 4.2% year-over-year in March 2026, totaling 310,205 units after a 4.4% drop in February. The increase was driven by strong performances from General Motors (+7.0% to 79,284 units), Volkswagen (+67.3% to 33,124), Audi (+209.5% to 17,911), and KIA (+20.3% to 19,939). However, exports declined for Nissan (-31.4% to 28,129), Stellantis (-3.2% to 30,235), and Toyota (-16.2% to 22,004). In the first quarter of 2026, total car exports rose 2.5% to 795,631 units.

Mexico Auto Exports Drop in February
Auto exports in Mexico slipped by 4.4% year-on-year to 247,945 units in February 2026, after a 2.3% rise in the prior month. Several companies recorded declines, including General Motors (-9.5% to 57,473), Ford Motor (-9.4% to 28,958), Nissan (-26.8% to 27,800), Mazda (-38.6% to 7,115), Mercedes-Benz Group (-28.4% to 2,832) and BMW (-96.6% to 288). In the first two months of 2026, exports rose by 1.4% to 485,426 units. The United States was the main destination, accounting for 75.7% of total, followed by Canada (12.1%) and Germany (3.3%).
