Mauritius Inflation Rate Hits Over 1-Year High of 4.9%

The annual inflation rate in Mauritius quickened for the second month to 4.9% in August 2026 from 4.4% in July, marking the highest level since July 2025.
Upward pressure came mostly from prices of housing & utilities (8.9% vs 8.9% in July); restaurants & hotels (8.6% vs 9.9%); alcoholic beverages & tobaco (6% vs 5.7%); transportation (6% vs 4.6%) and food & non-alcoholic beverages (3.9% vs 2.7%).
On the other hand, prices continued to decrease for information & communication (-1.5% vs -1.5%).
On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.4% in August, after a 0.2% increase in the month before.
