Mauritius Inflation Rate at 7-Month High

The annual inflation rate in Mauritius accelerated to 4.4% in July 2026 from 3.7% in the previous month, reaching its highest level since December 2025.

Prices rebounded for food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.7% vs. -1.3% in June), while inflation picked up for housing and utilities (8.9% vs. 8.8%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (5.7% vs. 1.8%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (4.3% vs. 3.5%), clothing and footwear (2.9% vs. 2.7%), and recreation, sports, and culture (2.5% vs. 2.3%).

Meanwhile, inflation eased for health (4.7% vs. 6.7%), transport (4.6% vs. 9.5%), and restaurants and hotels (9.9% vs. 10.2%).

At the same time, inflation was unchanged for education at 5.4%, while deflation for information and communication remained steady at 1.5%.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.2% in July, easing from a 0.3% increase in June and marking the slowest monthly rise since March.

The annual inflation rate in Mauritius quickened for the second month to 4.9% in August 2026 from 4.4% in July, marking the highest level since July 2025. Upward pressure came mostly from prices of housing & utilities (8.9% vs 8.9% in July); restaurants & hotels (8.6% vs 9.9%); alcoholic beverages & tobaco (6% vs 5.7%); transportation (6% vs 4.6%) and food & non-alcoholic beverages (3.9% vs 2.7%). On the other hand, prices continued to decrease for information & communication (-1.5% vs -1.5%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.4% in August, after a 0.2% increase in the month before.

Mauritius Inflation Rate Ebbs to 3.7% in June
The annual inflation rate in Mauritius fell to 3.7% in June 2026 from a five-month high of 4.3% in the prior month. Price growth moderated primarily for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (1.8% vs 9.3% in May); recreation & culture (2.3% vs 2.7%) and furnishings & household equipment (3.5% vs 3.9%). At the same time, prices continued to fall for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-1.3% vs -2%) and information & communication (-1.5% vs -1.7%). On a monthly basis, the CPI went up by 0.3% in June, slowing from a 0.8% increase in the month before.
