Mauritius Interest Rate at 3.50 percent  
The central bank of Mauritius lowered its key interest rate by 50bps to 3.5 percent on September 6th 2017, saying the inflation is unlikely to pick up significantly while there is a need to stimulate more investment into the productive sectors of the economy. The headline inflation is seen at around 4 percent in 2017 and at about 3.8 percent in 2018. The GDP growth is expected to be between 3.6-3.8 percent for 2017 and 4.2 percent in 2018.

Mauritius Inflation Rate at 4.60 percent  
Consumer prices in Mauritius rose 4.6 percent year-on-year in August of 2017, following a 5.3 percent rise in the previous month. It was the lowest inflation rate since April, as prices rose less for: food (5.0 percent vs 7.5 percent in July); clothing (2.2 percent vs 2.5 percent); health (4.6 percent from 5.2 percent); restaurant and hotels (3.3 percent vs 4.6 percent), and recreation & culture (1.6 percent vs 1.7 percent). Cost went up more for: alcoholic beverages & tobacco (11.6 percent vs 20.8 percent) while cost rebounded for housing (0.2 percent vs -2.7 percent) and furnishing (2.0 percent vs -0.2 percent). Inflation was steady for both communication (0.2 percent) and education (3.3 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat, after decreasing 0.9 in the prior month.
