On the other hand, largest declines were recorded in arrivals from the UK (down 0.5 percent to 16.3 thousand), Reunion Island (down 6.6 percent to 6.2 thousand), Switzerland (down 3.4 percent to 5.4 thousand) and China (down 16.5 percent to 3.3 thousand). Considering the January to November period, the number of foreigners visiting Mauritius advanced 4.6 percent to 1241.2 thousand.

The Central Bank of Mauritius left its key repo rate unchanged at 3.5 percent on November 9th 2018. The annual inflation rate increased to 2.8 percent in October of 2018 from 1.9 percent in September and policymakers forecast headline inflation at around 3.2 percent in 2018 and at 3 percent in 2019. Regarding GDP growth, the central bank expects a 4 percent expansion in 2018, amid higher consumption expenditure and public infrastructure investment. For 2019, growth is also seen at 4 percent. In addition, policymakers added that unemployment rate is projected to decline to 6.9 percent in 2018.

Mauritius’s annual inflation rate came in at 2.8 percent in November of 2018, unchanged from the previous month’s six-month high. Prices rose faster for transport (6.0 percent from 5.3 percent in October); furnishings and household equipment (2.0 percent from 1.2 percent); clothing and footwear (2.2 percent from 1.4 percent) and recreation and culture (1 percent from 0.4 percent); and health (3.1 percent from 3.0 percent). On the other hand, cost slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.2 percent from 6.1 percent); miscellaneous goods and services (1.3 percent from 1.8 percent); and restaurants and hotels (2.9 percent from 3.2 percent). Also, prices fell further for both housing and utilities (-1 percent from -0.3 percent); and communication (-1.1 percent from -0.8 percent) while inflation was steady for education (at 3.8 percent, the same as in October). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.4 percent, the same pace as in the previous month.

Mauritius GDP Annual Growth Rate at 3.70 percent  
The economy of Mauritius expanded 3.7 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2018, easing from an upwardly revised 4.1 percent growth in the previous period. Output growth slowed for wholesale and retail trade (3.4 percent from 3.9 percent in Q1); financial and insurance activities (5.5 percent from 5.7 percent); accommodation and food service activities (1.5 percent from 4.9 percent); transportation and storage (3.5 percent from 3.9 percent) and information and communication (5.6 percent from 5.8 percent). Also, manufacturing production stalled after increasing by 0.8 percent in the previous period. Meantime, agriculture, forestry and fishing shrank less (-3.7 percent from -5.4 percent) while output rebounded for mining and quarrying (2.2 percent from -0.9 percent) and public administration and defence (3.9 percent from -1.8 percent).
