Malaysia Posts Largest Current Account Surplus in 3-1/2 Years

Malaysia's current account surplus widened to MYR 15.16 billion in the first quarter of 2026 from MYR 13.85 billion in the same period last year.
It was the largest current account surplus since Q4 2022, supported by a solid performance in the goods account and sustained improvement in the services account.
The goods account surplus increased to MYR 33.60 billion from MYR 32.86 billion in the first quarter of 2025.
At the same time, the services account registered a surplus of MYR 6.45 billion, swinging from a MYR 2.19 billion deficit, supported by a surge in the manufacturing services surplus, travel services, and maintenance & repair services.
Meanwhile, the primary income account deficit widened to MYR 20.87 billion from MYR 15.38 billion in the same period last year.
At the same time, the secondary income deficit increased to MYR 4.02 billion in the first quarter of 2026 from MYR 1.45 billion a year earlier.
