Macau Trade Gap Widens in August

Macau’s trade deficit widened to MOP 10.1 billion in August 2026, from MOP 8.5 billion in the corresponding month last year.
Imports soared 18.4% year-on-year to MOP 11.5 billion, driven by higher purchases of gold jewellery (64.6%), mobile phones (28.6%), watches (22.7%), construction materials (17.0%), and fuels and lubricants (15.8%).
Among key trading partners, imports increased notably from China (50.7%), Italy (25.5%), and Hong Kong (25.6%).
Meanwhile, exports rose 10.8% to MOP 1.4 billion, supported by increased shipments of diamond and diamond jewellery (45.8%) and machines, apparatus and parts (7.3%).
Exports to key destinations increased notably to Hong Kong (29.0%), the United States (40.8%), and India (112.6%).
During the January-August period, Macau’s trade deficit rose to MOP 86.0 billion from MOP 70.3 billion in the same period last year.
