The unemployment rate in Macau stood at 1.9 percent in September-November 2017, the same as in the previous period. It remained the lowest jobless rate since the three months to December 2016, as total number of unemployed was unchanged at 7.4 thousand while employment fell by 2,300 to 377.5 thousand. Job losses were observed in hotels & similar activities, gaming & junket activities, and construction; while gains were seen in restaurants & similar activities, and wholesale & retail trade. The labor force participation rate was 70.4 percent.

Considering the first eleven months of the year, Macau's trade gap increased 4.2% to MOP 57.6 billion with exports rising 11.1 and imports gaining 5.3%.

Visitor arrivals in Macau rose 9.4 percent year-on-year to 2.833 million in November of 2017, following a 7.9 percent gain in October. Overnight visitors went up by 10 percent, while same-day visitors increased by 8.8 percent. Visitors from China, which accounted for 69.9 percent of total visitors, rose 16.1 percent with those traveling under the Individual Visit Scheme rising by 12 percent. Also, visitors increased from South Korea (16.9 percent), Australia (2.4 percent), Japan (1.1 percent), France (0.3 percent), and Taiwan (0.7 percent). In contrast, visitors dropped from Hong Kong (-6.8 percent), the USA (-4.8 percent), the UK (-11.1 percent), and Canada (-7 percent).

Consumer prices in Macau rose 1.69 percent year-on-year in November, accelerating from a 1.54 percent increase in the prior month. It was the highest inflation rate since January, as prices went up more for: transport (3.77 percent vs 2.43 percent in October); household goods and furnishings (2.59 percent vs 2.34 percent); miscellaneous goods and services (1.63 percent vs 1.44 percent); recreation & culture (2.16 percent vs 1.47 percent) while prices of alcoholic beverages & tobacco rebounded (0.45 percent vs -0.04 percent). Meantime, prices increased less for: food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.92 percent vs 2.33 percent in the prior month); clothing and footwear (1.29 percent vs 2.92 percent), and health (3.82 percent vs 5.11 percent). Inflation was steady for education (4.25 percent). In contrast, prices fell further for communication (-5.39 percent vs -5.54 percent). On monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.44 percent, compared to a 0.31 percent rise in October.

Macau GDP Annual Growth Rate at 6.10 percent  
Macau's economy advanced 6.1 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2017, following a downwardly revised 10.8 percent expansion in the previous period. The slowdown was due to high base of comparison in the third quarter of 2016 as the economy rebounded. In the third quarter, exports of goods and services (14.8 percent vs 18.8 percent in Q2), namely tourism (9.4 percent vs 22.1 percent) and gaming services (18.4 percent vs 19 percent) went up at a slower pace. Meantime, imports of services rose 12.2 percent (compared to 15.1 percent). At the same time, private consumption increased less (0.5 percent vs 2.7 percent). On the other hand, government spending (-0.7 percent vs -5.5 percent) and gross fixed capital formation (-25.1 percent vs -4.1 percent) contracted. Considering the first three quarters of 2017, the economy grew by 9.3 percent.

Retail sales in Macau went up 16.2 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2017, following a downwardy revised 8.2 percent increase in the second quarter of the year. It was the highest growth in retail sales since the first quarter 2014, as sales rose more for the most categories : adult's clothing (21.8 percent from 1.6 percent); goods in department stores (18.9 percent from 11.6 percent); watches, clothes and jewellery (29.5 percent from 17.0 percent); goods in supermarkets (4.3 percent from 3.5 percent) and communication (40.5 percent from 0.3 percent). Meantime, sales increased less for cosmetics and sanitary articles (13.6 percent from 15.4 percent); leather goods (20.7 percent from 25.1 percent) and motor vehicles (3.8 percent from 8.8 percent), while fell for automotive fuels (-9.2 percent from 6.7 percent). Considering the first three quarters of the year, retail sales went up 11.8 percent compared to the same period in 2016.
