Macau Tourist Arrivals at 3388931.00  
Visitor arrivals in Macau surged by 24 percent year-on-year to 3.39 million in March 2019, following a 15.5 percent gain in the previous month. Same-day visitors soared 40.8 percent and overnight visitors rose by 9.1 percent. Visitors from China, which accounted for 70.4 percent of total visitors, grew 31.3 percent, and those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme went up by 24 percent. Also, visitors increased from Hong Kong (11.7 percent); South Korea (8.3 percent); Taiwan (2.5 percent). Considering the first quarter of the year, visitor arrivals surged 21.1 percent year-on-year to 10.36 million.

Macau Inflation Rate at 2.84 percent  
Macau's consumer price inflation inched up to 2.84 percent year-on-year in March 2019 from 2.79 percent in the previous month. Prices rose further for food & non-alcoholic beverages (3.02 pct vs 2.51 pct in February); transport (5.40 pct vs 5.06 pct); miscellaneous goods & services (1.85 pct vs 1.71 pct), and household goods & furnishings (3.07 vs 2.90 pct). Meanwhile, prices slowed for housing & utilities (1.93 pct vs 2.11 pct); clothing & footwear (3.21 pct vs 4.48 pct); health (3.18 pct vs 3.56 pct); recreation & culture (1.85 pct vs 2.06 pct); and education (5.89 pct vs 5.95 pct). Additionally, prices continued to fall for communication (-0.74 pct vs -0.67 pct). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went down by 0.40 percent, after a 0.68 percent gain in the prior month.

The unemployment rate in Macau stood at 1.7 percent in December 2018-February 2019, the same as in the previous period and remaining at the lowest level since February-April 2015 period. Total number of unemployed fell by 3.1 percent to 6.7 thousand and employment declined 3.5 thousand (-0.9 percent) to 388.1 thousand. Job gains were seen in hotels & similar activities and restaurant & similar activities, while losses were reported in gaming & junket activities; wholesale & retail trade; and construction. The labor force participation rate was at 70.8 percent. In December 2017-February 2018 period, the jobless rate was higher at 1.9 percent.

Macau GDP Annual Growth Rate at 2.10 percent  
The economy of Macau advanced 2.1% yoy in Q4 2018, higher than an upwardly revised 1.9% expansion in Q3 which was the weakest since a contraction in 2016. Service trade remained the major driving force of economic growth. Exports of services rose 5.2% (6.2% in Q3) while shipments of goods rebounded (10.2% vs -8.1% in Q3). Also, imports of services shrank 1.7% (+1.7% in Q3) and those of goods went up 2.3% (0.9% in Q3). On the other hand, slowdown was observed for private consumption (2.8% vs 4.2%), government spending (3.4% vs 5.7%) and inventories (12.1% vs 16.1%). Also, investment continued to fall (-14.3% vs -21.4%) as private investment shrank 20.4%, due to notable drop in large-scale construction projects while public investment went up 4%. Considering full 2018, the economy advanced 4.7%, below 9.7% in 2017.

Retail sales in Macau rose 2.3 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2018, following a downwardly revised 10.8 percent increase in the previous quarter. It was the lowest growth rate since the third quarter 2016, when sales fell by 2.7 percent. Sales increased softer for: communication (13.1 percent vs 24.8 percent in Q3); goods in department stores (7.5 percent vs 16.5 percent); watches, clothes & jewelry (1.6 percent vs 4.5 percent); leather goods (4.3 percent vs 21.3 percent), and goods in supermarkets (3.9 percent vs 5.8 percent). On the other hand, sales went up faster for both automotive fuels (6.3 percent vs 5.3 percent) and cosmetics & sanitary articles (14.9 percent vs 8.7 percent). In addition, sales fell for motor vehicles (-5.4 percent vs 16 percent); adult's clothing (-6.3 percent vs 12 percent). For 2018 full year, retail sales grew by 13.8 percent year-on-year, compared to a 12.6 percent in 2017.
