Macau Trade Deficit Widens in June

Macau’s trade deficit widened to MOP 10.9 billion in June 2026 from MOP 8.8 billion in the same month a year earlier.
Imports rose 24.4% year-on-year to MOP 12.1 billion, driven by stronger purchases of gold and jewellery (79.1%) and mobile phones (46.8%), while imports of food and beverages declined 13.4%.
During the January–June period, imports increased notably from China (40.8%), France (10.9%), Italy (9.6%), Hong Kong (7.1%), and Japan (5.8%).
Meanwhile, exports climbed 32.7% to MOP 1.3 billion, supported by higher re-exports of diamonds and diamond jewellery (47.3%) as well as domestic exports of copper and related articles (16.5%), while pharmaceutical products and organic chemicals fell by 12.3%.
During the January–June period, exports also grew to Hong Kong (72.7%), China (10.9%), and the United States (1.6%).
In the first half of 2026, Macau recorded a cumulative trade deficit of MOP 66.1 billion, compared with MOP 46.1 billion in the same period a year earlier.
