Macau Trade Deficit Widens in July

Macau’s trade deficit widened to MOP 10 billion in July 2026, from MOP 8.9 billion in the corresponding month last year.
Imports rose 13.4% year-on-year to MOP 11.5 billion, driven by higher purchases of gold jewellery (55.8%) and garments and footwear (4.0%), while imports of food and beverages declined 6.2%, although the category remained the main import product.
Among key trading partners, imports increased notably from China (48.6%), Hong Kong (60.6%), and Italy (44.7%).
Meanwhile, exports rose 13.6% to MOP 1.5 billion, supported by increased shipments of knitted or crocheted garments (19%), diamond and diamond jewellery (15%), and machines, apparatus and parts (59.1%).
Export destinations recorded notable grew to Hong Kong (24.8%), the United States (20.1%), and India (191.6%).
During the January-July period, Macau’s trade deficit rose to MOP 77.3 billion from MOP 42.1 billion in the same period last year.
