Luxembourg Unemployment Rises to Highest Since 2020

Luxembourg’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 6.5% in August 2026, the highest level since July 2020, up from 6.3% in the previous month.

The number of unemployed persons increased by 464 over the month to 20,900, with the increase particularly pronounced among highly qualified job seekers (19%).

By age group, the largest increase was among those aged 30 to 44 (13.9%), followed by those aged 16 to 29 (13.5%).

Total employment also rose by 139 to 302,888, while the labor force population increased by 602 to 323,787.

Regarding cross-border employment, the number of outgoing resident workers increased by 26 to 15,544, while the number of incoming cross-border workers rose by 227 to 235,753.

In August 2025, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 5.9%.

Luxembourg’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 6.3% in July 2026, unchanged from the previous month. The number of unemployed persons decreased by 166 month-on-month to 20,399. Meanwhile, the total employment increased by 447 to 304,555, while the active labor force among Luxembourg nationals rose by 281 to 324,954. The number of resident job seekers grew by 966 to 532,403. Regarding cross-border employment, the number of outgoing resident workers increased by 27 to 15,347, while the number of incoming cross-border workers rose by 518 to 235,774. In July 2025, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 5.9%.

Luxembourg’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 6.4% in June 2026 from 6.2% in the previous month, reaching its highest level since January 2021. The number of unemployed persons increased by 433 month over month to 20,635. Meanwhile, total employment also rose by 452 to 304,089, while the active labor force among Luxembourg nationals grew by 886 to 324,724. The number of resident jobseekers climbed by 866 to 531,248. Regarding cross-border employment, the number of outgoing resident workers increased by 26 to 15,320, while the number of incoming cross-border workers rose by 405 to 235,087. In June 2025, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 5.9%.
