The Indonesian rupiah weakened toward IDR 16,660 per dollar on Monday after firming around IDR 16,620 in the prior session, weighed by modest foreign capital outflows in the second week of December and growing caution ahead of Bank Indonesia’s final policy decision of the year later this week.
While the central bank is widely expected to leave interest rates unchanged for a third time, officials have signaled scope for further reductions to bolster growth following 150bps of cuts over the past year.
Still, the downside was limited by signs of improving domestic demand, with retail sales for November expected to rise heading into year-end and consumer mood showing further strength during the month.
On the external front, the dollar index held losses as markets awaited delayed U.S.
economic data amid the government shutdown, while uncertainty over Fed leadership added to caution heading into 2026.
