The Indonesian rupiah weakened to around 16,690 per dollar on Wednesday, reversing gains from the prior session as investors turned cautious ahead of next week’s final monetary policy decision of the year.
In November, Bank Indonesia kept its benchmark rate unchanged at 4.75% for a second consecutive month after delivering a total 150bps of cuts since September 2024, but signaled there may still be room for further easing to support economic growth, which Governor Perry Warjiyo said remains below potential.
Fresh data showing October retail sales rose the most in three months failed to lift sentiment, as traders remained focus on rising inflation risks linked to logistics disruptions caused by severe floods and landslides in Sumatra in late November.
