Finnish Industrial Output Growth at 5-Month High

Finland’s industrial production rose by 2.3% year-on-year in October 2025, rebounding from a downwardly revised 1.5% drop in the previous month.

This marked the first expansion in industrial output after four consecutive months of contraction and the strongest growth since May, as production recovered for both gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (3.2% vs -1.1% in September) and manufacturing (2.3% vs -1.7%), driven by higher output in the manufacture of food products (1.7%), beverages (3.2%), and basic metals (2.5%).

Meanwhile, production growth for mining and quarrying decreased sharply (1.5% vs 28.3%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial activity grew by 2.4% in October, recovering from a downwardly revised 0.2% decline in the preceding period.

Industrial production in Finland grew by 1.9% year-on-year in November 2025, easing from a slightly downwardly revised 2.2% increase in the previous month. Output for mining and quarrying dropped by 5.1%, marking the first decline in five months and reversing a 1.5% rise in October, while production growth slowed for electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (0.8% vs 3.2%). Additionally, activity grew at a lesser extent in the manufacturing sector (2% vs 2.2%), driven by lower output in the manufacture of beverages (-7.1% vs 3.2%), printing and reproduction of recorded media (-8.8% vs -1.7%), and furniture (-2.9% vs 1.4%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial output went up by 0.5% in November, marking the softest rise since April and slowing from a downwardly revised 2.3% gain in the preceding period.

Finland’s industrial production fell 1.8% year-on-year in September 2025, following an upwardly revised 2.6% decline in the previous month. This marked the fourth consecutive month of contraction in industrial output but the mildest since June, as manufacturing production dropped 2.3% (vs -2.8%) amid faster growth in mining and quarrying (27.2% vs 2.0%) and a slight rebound in gas, steam, and air conditioning supply (0.1% vs -1.4%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial activity decreased 0.5% in September, reversing a downwardly revised 1.4% increase in August.
