Finland Current Account Balance Swings to Deficit

Finland posted a current account deficit of EUR 249 million in February 2026, reversing a surplus of EUR 576 million in the same month a year earlier. The goods account shifted to a deficit of EUR 263 million from a surplus of EUR 628 million in February 2025, while the services deficit widened slightly to EUR 337 million from EUR 323 million. Meanwhile, the secondary income deficit narrowed to EUR 156 million from EUR 164 million, and the primary income surplus increased to EUR 506 million from EUR 435 million a year ago.

Finland’s current account surplus narrowed to EUR 329 million in January 2025 from EUR 466 million in the same month last year. The goods surplus declined to EUR 422 million from EUR 518 million, as goods imports increased by 5.0%, outpacing the 3.0% rise in goods exports. Additionally, the primary income surplus narrowed to EUR 542 million from EUR 599 million, while the secondary income deficit widened sharply to EUR 187 million from EUR 22 million. Conversely, the services deficit shrank to EUR 448 million from EUR 629 million a year ago.

Finland’s current account surplus widened to EUR 1,207 million in December 2025 from EUR 813 million a year earlier, marking the largest surplus recorded since July. The goods account surplus rose to EUR 517 million, compared with EUR 429 million in December 2024. Similarly, the services account surplus increased to EUR 105 million from EUR 80 million, while the primary income account surplus widened to EUR 698 million from EUR 544 million a year ago. In addition, the services account deficit narrowed to EUR 113 million from EUR 240 million last year.
