Estonia Industrial Output Declines Further in April

Industrial production in Estonia fell 3.8% year-on-year in April 2026, after a revised 2.9% drop in the previous month, marking the lowest level since August 2024.

Output in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply continued to contract, though the decline eased (-14.9% vs. -19.5% in March), while manufacturing output remained in contraction and deteriorated further (-3.2% vs. -0.9% in March), weighed down by computers and peripheral equipment (-99.0%), coke and refined petroleum products (-27.3%), dairy products (-12.1%), other food products (-11.4%), prepared animal feeds (-16.0%), and food products (-8.0%).

In contrast, mining and quarrying stood out, accelerating sharply (14.3% vs. 5.9% in March).

On a monthly basis, industrial activity rose by 1.2%, reversing a 2.5% drop in the preceding period.

Industrial production in Estonia fell 3.1% year-on-year in March 2026, after a 0.5% drop in the previous month, marking the lowest level since December 2024. Output declined sharply in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply (-19.5% vs 4.0% in February), while manufacturing remained in contraction (unchanged at -1.2%), weighed down by food products (-4.1%), leather and related products (-19.5%), paper and paper products (-10.4%), coke and refined petroleum products (-21.8%), basic and pharmaceutical products and preparations (-15.3%), and furniture (-7.6%). In contrast, production accelerated in mining and quarrying (5.9% vs 0.1%). In the energy sector, the volume of production measured in megawatt-hours of electricity slumped by 23.6%, while heat output fell by 9.6% year-on-year in March, as weather conditions were warmer than usual. On a monthly basis, industrial activity declined by 2.5%, following a 0.7% drop in the preceding period.

Industrial production in Estonia fell 0.5% year-on-year in February 2026, reversing from a nine-month high of revised 5.8% in the previous month, and marking the lowest level since October 2025. Output declined in manufacturing (-1.1% vs 2.9% in January), weighed down by food products (-5.3%) and electrical equipment (-9.5%). Activity growth also slowed sharply in mining and quarrying (1.3% vs 10.7%), and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (3.1% vs 21.7%). In addition, in the energy sector, electricity production fell by 3.8% in volume terms, measured in megawatt-hours, while heat production rose by 10.2% in February year on year, as winter temperatures were lower than normal. On a monthly basis, industrial activity fell by 0.7% in February, following a revised 1% decline in the preceding period.
