Danish Consumer Mood Worsens to 5-Month Low

Denmark’s consumer confidence index fell to -18.6 in April 2026 from -13.8 in the previous month, marking its lowest level since November 2025.

Expectations for the overall economic situation worsened further for both the present (-31.8 vs -22.6 in March) and the year ahead (-27.5 vs -19.2).

At the same time, households’ views of their financial situation in a year turned negative (-6.8 vs 0.8), while assessments of the current situation edged lower (-12.5 vs -12.7).

Sentiment on major purchases improved marginally but remained negative (-14.6 vs -15.5).

Among components not included in the overall confidence indicator, consumers reported higher perceived prices both at present (36.8 vs 29.4) and over the next year (43.7 vs 23.5), while concerns about unemployment in the year ahead continued to rise (20 vs 17.9).

Danish Consumer Mood Weakens to 3-Month Low
Denmark’s consumer confidence index fell to -13.8 in March 2026 from an over one-year high of -13.1 in the previous month, marking the lowest reading since December 2025. Expectations regarding the overall economic situation deteriorated for both the present (-22.6 vs -20.7 in February) and the future (-19.2 vs -12.8). At the same time, households’ assessment of their current financial situation compared to a year ago remained pessimistic (-12.7 vs -12.4). Meanwhile, expectations for household finances over the next year improved (0.8 vs -0.8), and consumers’ sentiment on major purchases became less negative (-15.5 vs -18.7). Among other developments in consumer expectations, consumers reported slower price increases over the past 12 months (29.4 vs 33.2), while expectations for the year ahead rose (23.5 vs 11.9). In addition, concerns about unemployment over the next year increased (17.9 vs 13.2).

Denmark’s consumer confidence index rose to -13.1 in February 2026 from -13.4 in the previous month, marking the highest reading since January 2025. Expectations regarding the overall economic situation improved for both the present (-20.7 vs -24.4 in January) and the future (-12.8 vs -15.8). At the same time, households’ outlook for their financial situation a year ahead continued to become less pessimistic, moving closer to neutral (-0.8 vs -1.5). In contrast, assessments of current household finances deteriorated. (-12.4 vs -8.2). Sentiment toward major purchases also weakened, both for the present (-18.7 vs -17.2) and for the year ahead (-6.4 vs -4.3). Among components not included in the overall confidence indicator, consumers reported slower price increases for both the current situation (33.2 vs 44.5) and the coming year (11.9 vs 18.1). In addition, concerns about unemployment over the next 12 months eased, with the indicator improving to 13.2 from 15.6.
