Czech Republic Inflation Rate Confirmed at 1.4%

Czech Republic’s inflation rate eased to 1.4% year-on-year in February 2026 from 1.6% in the previous month, confirming preliminary estimates.

This marked the lowest reading since October 2016, as inflation slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages (0.4% vs 1.3% in January), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4% vs 4.7%), furnishings, household equipment, and maintenance (1.1% vs 1.3%), health (3.9% vs 4.4%), recreation and culture (1.7% vs 2.5%), and restaurants and hotels (4.6% vs 4.9%).

On the other hand, costs increased for information and communication (2.4% vs 1.5%) and education (4.1% vs 4%), while prices fell at a softer pace for clothing and footwear (-2.3% vs -2.6%) and transportation (-1.5% vs -1.6%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices dropped 0.1% in February, reversing a 0.9% gain in the preceding period.

This marked the lowest reading since October 2016, as price growth slowed for food and beverages (0.4% vs 1.3% in January), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4% vs 4.7%), and services (4.5% vs 4.7%). Deflation in goods also deepened (-0.7% vs -0.4%), while it slightly eased for energy (-7.8% vs -7.9%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.1% in February, reversing a 0.9% increase in the prior month.

The annual inflation rate in the Czech Republic slowed to 1.6% in January 2026 from 2.1% in the previous month, confirming preliminary estimates. This marked the lowest reading since November 2016, mainly due to lowest costs of clothing and footwear (-2.6% vs -2.1% in December) and transport (-1.6% vs -0.1%). Additionally, inflation softened for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.3% vs 1.7%), housing and utilities (0.8% vs 1.9%), and information and communication (1.5% vs 2.3%). In contrast, prices increased further for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.7% vs 4.1%) and health (4.4% vs 3.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.9% in January, rebounding from 0.3% fall in the preceding period.
