Croatia Current Account Deficit Narrows Slightly in Q2

The current account deficit of Croatia narrowed to EUR 1,890 million in the second quarter of 2026 from EUR 1,902 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The services account surplus increased to EUR 3,403 million from EUR 3,352 million, while the primary income account deficit shrank to EUR 844 million from EUR 1,003 million.

The secondary income account surplus also edged up to EUR 1,194 million from EUR 1,179 million.

Conversely, the goods account deficit widened to EUR 5,642 million from EUR 5,430 million in the second quarter of 2025.

For the first half of 2026, Croatia posted a current account deficit of EUR 5,509 million, widening from a deficit of EUR 5,375 million in the same period of 2025.

The current account deficit of Croatia widened to EUR 3,411 million in the first quarter of 2026 from EUR 3,277 million in the corresponding period of the previous year. The goods account deficit increased to EUR 4,920 million from EUR 4,834 million in the first quarter of 2025. At the same time, the primary income account surplus narrowed to EUR 163 million from EUR 277 million. Conversely, the services account surplus edged up to EUR 836 million from EUR 834 million, while the secondary income account surplus also increased to EUR 509 million from EUR 446 million.

The current account deficit of Croatia widened to EUR 2,204 million in the fourth quarter of 2025, up from a deficit of EUR 2,140 million in the same period a year earlier, as most components showed improvements. The services surplus rose to EUR 1,725 million from EUR 1,670 million a year earlier, while the goods deficit shrank to EUR 4,412 million from a deficit of EUR 4,520 million. The secondary income surplus widened to EUR 588 million from EUR 215 million. In contrast, the primary income balance shifted to a deficit of EUR 105 million from a surplus of EUR 495 million. For the full year, Croatia posted a current account deficit of EUR 3,263 million in 2025, widening from a deficit of EUR 1,880 million in 2024.
