Croatia Current Account Deficit Widens in Q1

The current account deficit of Croatia widened to EUR 3,411 million in the first quarter of 2026 from EUR 3,277 million in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The goods account deficit increased to EUR 4,920 million from EUR 4,834 million in the first quarter of 2025.

At the same time, the primary income account surplus narrowed to EUR 163 million from EUR 277 million.

Conversely, the services account surplus edged up to EUR 836 million from EUR 834 million, while the secondary income account surplus also increased to EUR 509 million from EUR 446 million.

Croatia Current Account Deficit Widens in Q4
The current account deficit of Croatia widened to EUR 2,204 million in the fourth quarter of 2025, up from a deficit of EUR 2,140 million in the same period a year earlier, as most components showed improvements. The services surplus rose to EUR 1,725 million from EUR 1,670 million a year earlier, while the goods deficit shrank to EUR 4,412 million from a deficit of EUR 4,520 million. The secondary income surplus widened to EUR 588 million from EUR 215 million. In contrast, the primary income balance shifted to a deficit of EUR 105 million from a surplus of EUR 495 million. For the full year, Croatia posted a current account deficit of EUR 3,263 million in 2025, widening from a deficit of EUR 1,880 million in 2024.

Croatia’s Current Account Surplus Narrows in Q3 2025
Croatia’s current account surplus shrank to €3,931 million in the third quarter of 2025, down from €4,648 million in the same period a year earlier. The services surplus eased to €8,905 million from €9,041 million, while deficits in goods and primary income widened to €4,882 million (from €4,580 million) and €821 million (from €399 million), respectively. Meanwhile, the secondary income surplus increased to €729 million from €586 million. For the first three quarters of 2025, Croatia posted a current account deficit of €1,285 million, compared with a surplus of €260 million in the same period of 2024.
