Croatia’s Current Account Surplus Narrows in Q3 2025

Croatia’s current account surplus shrank to €3,931 million in the third quarter of 2025, down from €4,648 million in the same period a year earlier. The services surplus eased to €8,905 million from €9,041 million, while deficits in goods and primary income widened to €4,882 million (from €4,580 million) and €821 million (from €399 million), respectively. Meanwhile, the secondary income surplus increased to €729 million from €586 million. For the first three quarters of 2025, Croatia posted a current account deficit of €1,285 million, compared with a surplus of €260 million in the same period of 2024.

The current account deficit in Croatia widened to EUR 1,948 million in the second quarter of 2025, up from EUR 1,469 million in the same period last year. The increase was driven by a larger goods deficit, which rose to EUR 5,427 million from EUR 5,381 million in Q2 2024, as well as a shortfall in primary income, which grew from EUR 69 million to EUR 338 million. At the same time, the services surplus narrowed to EUR 3,278 million from EUR 3,412 million, while the secondary income surplus edged lower to EUR 539 million from EUR 568 million. Considering the first two quarters of the year, the current account deficit widened to EUR 5,581 million, compared with EUR 4,388 million in the same period a year earlier.

The current account gap in Croatia widened to EUR 1571 million in the fourth quarter 2024 from EUR 1051 million in the same period of the previous year. The goods deficit rose to EUR 4212 million from EUR 3806 million in Q4 2023 and the services surplus narrowed to EUR 1676 million from EUR 1755 million. Also, the secondary income surplus fell to EUR 406 million from EUR 638 million while the primary income surplus went up to EUR 559 million from EUR 363 million. Considering full 2024, the current account posted a EUR 1,059 million deficit, switching from a EUR 320 million surplus in 2024.
