UK natural gas futures fell to around 72 pence per therm, not far from a 20-month low of 69.7 pence reached on December 10, following a broader decline in European prices.
The drop reflects milder short-term weather expectations, with forecasts now pointing to near-normal temperatures in early January rather than the previously anticipated cold spell.
Strong supply continues to ease market pressures, with steady flows from Norway and robust LNG imports.
High wind power generation has further reduced domestic gas demand, while limited storage capacity has led the UK to export surplus gas to Europe.
