US natural gas futures dropped to below $4.2/MMBtu, a six-week low, as traders priced in milder weather, softer demand expectations, and near-record supply.
Forecasts show warmer-than-normal conditions through Dec 26, curbing heating demand.
Also, output in the Lower 48 climbed to 109.7 bcfd so far in December, edging above November’s record, boosting storage to about 3% above seasonal norms.
Even so, last week’s 177 bcf storage withdrawal was unusually large, reflecting the brief spell of extreme cold.
Strong production and ample inventories continue to weigh on prices, even as LNG feedgas demand rises to 18.7 bcfd, a new monthly high.
