Gasoline Holds Near 3-Month Low

US gasoline futures traded around $2.95 per gallon, holding close to a three-month low as markets assessed diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.

Reports of a US strike on Iran’s Qeshm Island initially pressured prices, although Energy Secretary Wright said the strikes had not disrupted flows through the Strait of Hormuz.

Ongoing negotiations have also helped ease concerns over further disruptions, with the US approving a draft memorandum of understanding presented to Iran by Qatar on Monday.

Meanwhile, US gasoline inventories have shown some recovery.

EIA data showed inventories unexpectedly rose by 3.8 million barrels in the week ended October 23rd, while gasoline supplied, a proxy for demand, fell by 624,000 bpd to 8.36 million bpd.

However, inventories remain around 2% below their five-year seasonal average.

Seasonal refinery maintenance and a shift toward higher diesel production ahead of winter could constrain gasoline output, limiting further downside in prices.

Gasoline Holds Near March Lows
US gasoline futures hovered around $2.75 a gallon, near their lowest level since early March, as traders weighed tight fuel supplies against expectations of faster progress towards ending the US-Iran war. Iran reported that three tankers had been damaged in the Strait of Hormuz, highlighting the risks to shipping through the vital waterway. Supply concerns were reinforced by EIA data showing US gasoline inventories fell by 222,000 barrels in the week ending October 30th, leaving stocks persistently below their five-year average. An EIA report also pointed to an expected shift among US refiners away from gasoline towards middle distillates, including distillate fuel oil and jet fuel, as those carry more attractive prices. Seasonal refinery maintenance could further constrain gasoline supplies. However, a Democratic takeover of the US Congress raised the prospect of greater constraints on military escalation while de-escalation efforts by Qatar continue in the Middle East.

Gasoline Hits 8-Month Low
US gasoline futures held near $2.75 a gallon, close to their lowest level since early March, as expectations of faster progress toward ending the US-Iran war weighed on prices. Democrats' victory in both chambers of Congress in the US midterm elections raised the prospect of greater constraints on military escalation and renewed diplomatic efforts. Adding to bearish pressures, Energy Secretary Wright said the administration is working with refiners to boost output and restart idled facilities, noting that prices peaked in September and should decline further. However, supply conditions remained tight as EIA data showed that US gasoline inventories fell by 222 thousand barrels in the week ending October 30th, leaving it 2% below the five-year average. Seasonal refinery maintenance and a shift toward diesel production ahead of winter could also constrain gasoline supply.

Gasoline Drops to Four-Month Low
US gasoline futures traded around $2.82 per gallon, holding close to a four-month low as markets weighed diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran against persistently tight supplies. Ongoing negotiations helped ease concerns over disruptions to the Strait of Hormuz, with flows reportedly nearing normal levels. US President Trump said he has no immediate plans to strike Iran following a Democratic sweep in the US midterm elections, weighing on prices as the political outcome could complicate the President's foreign policy. However, tight US gasoline inventories remain a concern, with EIA data showing a 222,000-barrel draw in the week ending October 30th. Energy Secretary Wright said the administration is working with refiners to boost output and restart idled facilities, adding that prices peaked in September and should decline further. Still, seasonal refinery maintenance and a shift toward diesel production ahead of winter could constrain gasoline supply.
