Baltic Dry Index Breaks 9-Day Losing Run

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, halted a nine-day losing streak on Friday, rising about 2.3% to 1,567 points.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, snapped a 16-day losing run, advancing 2.3% to 2,224 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, added 4.3% to 1,548 points.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index increased 4 points to 967 points.
The benchmark index was down 7.2% for the week, dragged down by the capesize segment (-15.8%).
