The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, was down for the ninth consecutive day on Thursday, falling 2.2% to the lowest since July last year at 1,532 points, pressured by the bigger-size segment.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, retreated for the 16th straight session, dropping 6.3% to 2,175 points.
On the other hand, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 4.3% to 1,398 points; and the supramax index increased 10 points to 963 points.
