The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, was down for a second session on Thursday, falling about 2.4% to its lowest since November 12 at 2,071 points, pressured by all vessel segments.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also decreased for a second day, falling 0.5% to a near one-month low of 3,675 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, eased for the 16th straight session, slipping 6.2% to its lowest since June 24 at 1,389 points.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index declined 50 points to 1,258 points.
