The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, snapped its three-day losing streak on Thursday, rising about 2.3% to 2,077 points, supported by all vessel segments.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also halted a three-day losing run, dropping 3.6% to 3,133 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, advanced for a seventh day, up 0.5% to its highest since October 28 at 1,897 points.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index added 22 points at 1,387 points.
