The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, retreated for a third session on Wednesday, dropping about 2% to its lowest since November 5 at 2,030 points, amid continued weakness in the larger vessel segment.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, was also down for a third day, slipping 5.3% to its lowest since November 4 at 3,023 points.
Conversely, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, advanced for a sixth day, rising 1.2% to an over two-week high of 1,887 points; and the supramax index added 21 points at 1,365 points.
