The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, was up for a third day on Thursday, climbing 3% to its highest since October 22 at 2,063 points, on higher rates across all segments.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also advanced for a third session, jumping 5.1% to an over three-week high of 3,242 points; and the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 1.3% to 1,817 points, marking a second session of gains.
Among smaller vessels, the supramax index went up 0.4% to 1,312 points.
