Colombia’s economy expanded 3.5% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, accelerating from 2.2% growth in the previous quarter.

Growth was supported by public spending, although its pace eased to 12.2% from 13.2%, while household consumption strengthened to 2.8% from 2.7%.

Activity also accelerated in public administration, health and defense (10% vs 5.6%), entertainment (9.5% vs 3.2%), financial services (4.3% vs 2.8%) and utilities (4.8% vs 2.6%).

However, risks to the outlook include the recent earthquake, the strongest in half a century, and dry weather associated with the El Niño phenomenon.

On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the economy expanded 1.3%, accelerating sharply from a 0.6% increase in the prior quarter.
