Gross average monthly wages refer to the total remuneration, in cash and in kind, received by employees before any deductions for taxes or social security contributions. This includes wages and salaries, pay for time not worked, bonuses, and gratuities paid by employers. The data typically cover the total economy and are expressed per full-time equivalent employee, allowing for comparison across countries regardless of differences in working hours or the share of part-time and full-time workers. In cases where data in full-time units are not available, wages may be reported either for full-time workers only or as total wages divided by the number of all employees (including both full-time and part-time). For some countries, coverage and composition differ — for example, Iceland reports only private sector wages, Serbia excludes household services, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, and Iceland include only cash remuneration, excluding payments in kind.
