Austria Jobless Rate Edges Up to 7.1%

Austria’s unemployment rate edged up to 7.1% in September 2026, 0.1 percentage points higher than a year earlier.
The total number of unemployed persons increased by 7,444 year-on-year to 306,624.
Among them, female unemployment rose 6.0% to 147,168, while male and other genders’ unemployment decreased 0.6% to 159,456.
Including training participants, the number of unemployed and enrolled in training programs reached 381,159, rising 1.6% year-on-year.
The number of unemployed and training participants among women increased 5.3%, while the corresponding figure for men and other genders fell 1.8%.
Long-term unemployment also remained elevated, with those unemployed for more than 12 months increasing 22.1% to 56,432.
