Austria Jobless Rate Rises to 7.2%

Austria’s unemployment rate rose to 7.2% in August 2026, up 0.2 percentage points from a year earlier.
The total number of unemployed persons increased by 10,027 year-on-year to 311,448.
Among them, female unemployment rose 6.3% to 151,513, while male and other genders’ unemployment increased 0.7% to 159,935.
Dependent employment was estimated at 4,003,000, up 10,000 from August 2025.
Including training participants, the number of unemployed and enrolled in training programs reached 375,730, rising 2.3% year-on-year.
Female unemployment and training participants increased 5.8%, while the number of unemployed and training participants among men and other genders fell 0.8%.
Long-term unemployment also remained elevated, with those unemployed for more than 12 months increasing 22.6% to 55,995.
