Austria Jobless Rate Holds at 6.9% in July

Austria’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6.9% in July 2026 from the previous month, while edging up from 6.7% in the corresponding month a year earlier.

The total number of unemployed persons rose by 8,917 year-on-year to 298,885.

Among them, the female unemployment rate went up by 0.3 percentage points to 6.9%, with the number of unemployed women increasing by 8,038 to 142,244, while the rate for men and other genders remained broadly steady at 6.8%, with the number of unemployed individuals increasing by 879 to 156,641.

Dependent employment increased by 9,000 from a year earlier to 4,044,000.

Employment among women rose by 6,000 to 1,901,000, whereas employment among men and other genders increase by 3,000 to 2,143,000.

Including training participants, the total number of unemployed persons and those enrolled in labour market programs reached 364,202, up by 4,828 from the previous year.

Austria’s unemployment rate edged up to 6.9% in June 2026 from 6.8% in the corresponding month a year ago. The total number of unemployed persons rose by 6,912 year-on-year to 295,457. Among them, the female unemployment rate went up by 0.3 percentage points to 6.9%, with the number of unemployed women increasing by 7,730 to 139,381, while the rate for men and other genders remained broadly steady at 6.8%, with the number of unemployed individuals falling by 818 to 156,076. Dependent employment increased by 5,000 from a year earlier to 4,008,000. Employment among women rose by 4,000 to 1,883,000, whereas employment among men and other genders remained unchanged at 2,125,000. Austria’s unemployment rate edged up to 7.1% in May 2026 from 7.0% in the corresponding month a year ago. The total number of unemployed persons rose by 5,536 year-on-year to 301,676. Among them, the female unemployment rate went up by 0.3 percentage points to 7.0%, with the number of unemployed women rising by 6,643 to 140,381, while the rate for men and other genders remained broadly steady at 7.1%, with the number of unemployed individuals falling by just 1,107 to 161,295. Dependent employment increased by 6,000 from a year earlier to 3,967,000. Employment among women rose by 6,000 to 1,863,000, whereas employment among men and other genders remained unchanged at 2,104,000. Including training participants, the total number of unemployed persons and those enrolled in labour market programs reached 378,278, up by 2,931 from the previous year.
