Austria's economy grew by 0.4 percent on quarter in the three months to September 2018, below a preliminary estimate of 0.5 percent and following a 0.6 percent expansion in the previous period. This was the weakest growth rate since the second quarter of 2015 as private consumption increased at a softer pace (0.3 percent vs 0.4 percent in Q2), alongside fixed investment (0.7 percent vs 1.1 percent) and government spending (0.4 percent vs 0.5 percent). Meanwhile, net trade contributed positively to GDP growth as exports (0.7 percent, the same as in Q2) rose faster than imports (0.4 percent vs 0.6 percent). Year-on-year, the economy grew by 2.2 percent, below a preliminary 2.4 percent and the previous quarter's 2.7 percent.

The Unicredit Bank Austria Manufacturing PMI increased to 54.9 in November 2018 from 53.8 in the prior month. Output growth recovered to a 3-month high, after being at the lowest for over two years during September and October. Also, new orders rose slightly faster, but the rate of expansion remained relatively subdued as export orders fell for the second month running partly due to a slowdown across the European car industry. Meantime, the rate of job creation picked up from October's 20-month low, though was still among the weakest seen over the past two years. On the price front, cost pressures remained strong, with higher input costs translated in a further marked rise in output charges. Finally, business expectations towards the year-ahead outlook for output were the lowest since February 2015, amid concerns about general slowdown in economic growth and difficulties in the autos sector.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.3%, easing from a 0.8% gain in September.
