Austria Jobless Rate Rises to 7.5% in November

The unemployment rate in Austria rose to 7.5% in November 2025 from 7.2% in the same month a year earlier, marking the highest reading since February.

The total number of unemployed persons increased by 16,000 year-on-year, reaching a nine-month high of 320,400.

Compared with October, the number of unemployed also rose by 9,900.

Breaking the figures down by gender, the jobless rate for women came in at 7.3%, 0.4 percentage points higher than in November 2024, while the rate for men rose by 0.3 percentage points to 7.7%.

Additionally, around 399,000 people were registered as unemployed or undergoing training in October.

Austria’s unemployment rate climbed to 8.8% in January 2026 from 8.6% a year earlier, marking its highest level since March 2021. The increase reflected a rise in the total number of unemployed persons, which rose by 14,025 year-on-year to 379,771 and by 16,765 compared with the previous month. By gender, the female jobless rate grew by 0.4 percentage points to 7.3% from January 2025, while the male unemployment rate edged up by 0.2 percentage points to 10.2%. Meanwhile, around 456,192 people were registered as unemployed or training participants in January.

Austria’s unemployment rate rose to 8.4% in December 2025 from 8.2% in the same month a year earlier, recording the highest level since January. The total number of unemployed persons grew by 10,133 year-on-year, reaching an eleven-month high of 363,006, while compared with November, the number of unemployed also climbed by 42,655. By gender, the female jobless rate increased by 0.4 percentage points to 7.2% from December 2024, while the male unemployment rate edged up by 0.1 percentage points, reaching 9.6%. In addition, around 434,572 people were registered as unemployed or participating in training in December.
