Austria Jobless Rate Climbs to Nearly 5-Year High

Austria’s unemployment rate climbed to 8.8% in January 2026 from 8.6% a year earlier, marking its highest level since March 2021.
The increase reflected a rise in the total number of unemployed persons, which rose by 14,025 year-on-year to 379,771 and by 16,765 compared with the previous month.
By gender, the female jobless rate grew by 0.4 percentage points to 7.3% from January 2025, while the male unemployment rate edged up by 0.2 percentage points to 10.2%.
Meanwhile, around 456,192 people were registered as unemployed or training participants in January.
