Argentina Monthly Inflation Edges Higher in July

Argentina’s consumer price index rose 2.1% month-over-month in July 2026, up from 1.9% in June and slightly above forecasts of 2.0%.

Seasonal prices increased 4.5%, led by vegetables, tour packages and accommodation services, while regulated prices rose 2.1%, reflecting higher public transportation fares, private healthcare costs and electricity prices.

Recreation and Culture recorded the largest monthly increase at 5.0%, driven by higher tour packages and cultural services, followed by Restaurants and Hotels at 2.8%.

Across Greater Buenos Aires, the Northeast, Northwest, Pampas and Patagonia, Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages made the largest contribution to monthly inflation, driven by higher vegetable, dairy, bread and cereal prices.

Core CPI rose 1.8%, driven by higher housing rents and cultural services, partly offset by a decline in building maintenance fees following the removal of a 20% surcharge included in June.

Argentina's consumer price index rose 1.9% month-over-month in June 2026, easing from 2.1% in the previous month and matching market expectations. Seasonal prices increased 3.4%, reflecting higher prices for vegetables and tourism services, including airfares, hotels, and package holidays, partly offset by lower fruit prices. Regulated prices advanced 2.3%, led by electricity and public transportation. The largest monthly increase was recorded in recreation and culture, which rose 4.2% due to higher package holiday prices, followed by housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, up 3.3%. Communications (0.9%) and clothing and footwear (0.4%) posted the smallest increases. Core inflation rose 1.6%, driven by higher prices for bread and cereals, pharmaceuticals, and housing rents. On an annual basis, consumer prices increased 33.5%.

Seasonal prices posted the largest gain, rising 3.5%, driven by higher vegetable prices despite a decline in fruit prices. Regulated prices increased 2.4%, reflecting higher fuel, electricity, and water costs, while core inflation rose 1.9%, supported by increases in restaurant and catering services and pharmaceutical products. Among major categories, communication recorded the strongest increase, up 3.4% due to higher telephone service charges, followed by education, which advanced 2.9%. The smallest increases were seen in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.8%) and clothing and footwear (0.3%). Year-on-year, the CPI increased 33.2%.
