The yield on the Swiss 10-year government bond fell to 0.51%, its lowest level in around a week, amid a broader decline in sovereign yields.
Concerns over costly AI investments in a higher-for-longer interest rate environment boosted demand for safe-haven government bonds.
Unlike several other central banks, the Swiss National Bank left its policy rate unchanged at 0% and is widely expected to maintain this level through year-end.
Vice Chairman Martin said no rate adjustment was currently necessary, citing low and stable inflation, limited spillover risks and an economy performing “very well.” Swiss inflation rose to a two-year high of 1% in September, driven mainly by higher energy prices amid the prolonged Middle East conflict.
However, inflation remains within the SNB’s 0–2% target range.
While most economists expect rates to remain unchanged through 2027, markets are pricing in a potential hike in early 2027 and approximately three increases by year-end.
