Sri Lanka Producer Inflation Slows in June

Producer prices in Sri Lanka rose by 1.3% year-on-year in June 2026, easing from an upwardly revised 3.3% rise in the previous month.

Agricultural producer prices fell at a faster pace (-10.7% vs -9.5% in May), mainly due to weaker prices for perennial and non-perennial crops.

Meanwhile, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply prices accelerated (15.8% vs 13.4%), while water collection, treatment and supply also recorded faster growth (5.9% vs 5.7%).

Manufacturing inflation increased further (3.6% vs 3.2%), supported by higher costs of chemical products, non-metallic mineral products, other transport equipment, and food products.

On a monthly basis, producer prices declined 1.2% in June, reversing a 1.6% increase in the previous month.

Sri Lanka Producer Inflation Accelerates in April
Producer prices in Sri Lanka rose by 1.7% year-on-year in April 2026, picking up from a 0.5% rise in the previous month. The acceleration was mainly driven by a sharp rebound in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (17.2% vs -4.6% in March). Prices for water collection, treatment, and supply also rose at a faster pace (5.3% vs 0.6%). Additionally, inflation increased further for manufacturing (4.3% vs 1.3%), supported by higher costs of chemical, non-metallic mineral, other transport equipment, and food products. In contrast, agricultural producer prices declined at a much steeper pace (-15.2% vs 1.6%), largely due to weaker prices for perennial and non-perennial crops. On a monthly basis, producer prices advanced by 1.1% in April.

Sri Lanka Producer Inflation Steady at 0.5%
Producer prices in Sri Lanka stood at 0.5% year-on-year in March 2026, unchanged from the previous month. Agricultural prices continued to decline (-16.5% vs -16.2% in February), driven by contractions in both non-perennial (-20.0%) and perennial crop production (-22.4%). Meanwhile, manufacturing inflation edged up to 3.0% from 2.9%, led by increases in food (4.3%), beverages (0.7%), rubber and plastics products (2.1%), and other transport equipment (5.2%). Electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply costs also accelerated (18.0% vs 12.6%). On a monthly basis, producer prices were flat in March, following a 0.9% decline in the previous month.
