Producer prices in Sri Lanka rose by 1.7% year-on-year in April 2026, picking up from a 0.5% rise in the previous month.
The acceleration was mainly driven by a sharp rebound in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (17.2% vs -4.6% in March).Prices for water collection, treatment, and supply also rose at a faster pace (5.3% vs 0.6%).
Additionally, inflation increased further for manufacturing (4.3% vs 1.3%), supported by higher costs of chemical, non-metallic mineral, other transport equipment, and food products.
In contrast, agricultural producer prices declined at a much steeper pace (-15.2% vs 1.6%), largely due to weaker prices for perennial and non-perennial crops.
On a monthly basis, producer prices advanced by 1.1% in April.
