Slovenia Retail Sales Fall to 2-Year Low

Retail sales in Slovenia fell 3.5% year-on-year in February 2026, following a 1.5% decline in January, marking the lowest level since February 2024.

Sales dropped in non-food products (-2.1% vs 1.1% in January) and fell further in food, beverages, and tobacco (-4.6% vs -1.4%).

Meanwhile, the decline in retail activity for automotive fuel at specialized stores eased (-6.4% vs -9.2%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales continued to fall, down 2% from 1.9% in January.

Overall, retail turnover in the first two months of 2026 fell 1.9% year-on-year.

Retail sales in Slovenia fell by 1.5% year-on-year in January 2026, reversing the 2.4% gain recorded in the previous month, marking the lowest level since December 2024. Sales declined for food, beverages, and tobacco (-1.4% vs 1.8% in December), while activity in motor fuel sales at specialized stores contracted sharply (-9.2% vs 0.5%). Sales of non-food products also eased, rising only 1.1% compared with 3% in the prior month. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales declined by 1.9% in January, after remaining stagnant in December.

Retail sales in Slovenia rose by 2.4% year-on-year in December 2025, following a 1.0% increase in the previous month. Sales rebounded for food, beverages, and tobacco (1.8% vs -2.6% in November) and strengthened further for non-food products (3.0% vs 2.2%). In contrast, activity growth in sales of motor fuels in specialized stores slowed sharply (0.5% vs 6.5%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales were unchanged in December, after a decrease of -0.4% in November.
