Slovenia Industrial Output Drops at Softer Pace

Industrial production in Slovenia fell by 3% year-on-year in January 2026, easing from a downwardly revised 3.7% drop in the previous month.

Activity declined at a softer pace in the manufacturing sector (-2.4% vs -4.5%).

Meanwhile, output decreased sharply for mining and quarrying (-16.3% vs 2.5%) and electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (-6.8% vs 4.9%).

By industrial grouping, production fell for intermediate goods (-1.8%), energy (-6.5%), and consumer goods (-11.2%), while capital goods output increased by 6.4%.

On a monthly basis, industrial activity rose by 1% in January, following a downwardly revised 1% fall in the preceding period.

Industrial production in Slovenia fell by 2.5% year-on-year in February 2026, easing from an upwardly revised 3.8% drop in the previous month. This marked the softest decline since December, driven largely by a higher output in the manufacturing sector, rising by 1.9% after a 4.2% decrease in January, while contraction in mining production significantly eased (-1.3% vs -16.3%). Conversely, activity in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning sank by 31.9%, reversing a 0.2% gain in the prior month. By industrial groupings, production increased for capital goods (9.1% vs 3.6%) and consumer goods (3.5% vs -11.3%), while intermediate goods output dropped at a faster pace (-10.6% vs -2.4%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial activity edged down by 0.1% in February, slipping from a downwardly revised 0.4% in the preceding period.

Industrial production in Slovenia fell 4.1% year-on-year in December 2025, worsening from a 1.8% decline in November and marking the steepest drop since June. Activity went down sharply for manufacturing, declining 4.5% after a 1.5% fall in the previous month, while output in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply also remained in negative territory, though the pace of decline eased (-1.4% vs -6.9%). At the same time, growth in mining and quarrying slowed to 2.5% from 9.2%. By industrial grouping, output fell for intermediate goods (-1.7%), capital goods (-2.5%), and consumer goods (-9.8%). On a monthly basis, industrial activity dropped 1.4%, deepening from a 0.4% decline in November. For the whole of 2025, industrial production was 1.8% lower than in the previous year.
