Slovakia GDP Growth Revises Slightly Higher

Slovakia’s economy grew by 0.8% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, slightly above the preliminary estimate but edging down from a 0.9% expansion in Q1.
The largest positive contribution came from the wholesale and retail trade, transport, accommodation, and food service sectors, expanding 2.3% and accounting for 21.8% of total gross value added.
Industry, representing 17.5% of GDP, recorded more modest growth of 0.3%.
On the expenditure side, domestic demand was the main driver, with government consumption returning to growth (1.7% vs -0.4%), while household spending eased (0.6% vs 1.1%).
Gross fixed capital formation fell 0.3%.
Meanwhile, exports of goods and services increased 3.0%, while imports rose 3.7%, with the foreign trade balance reaching a surplus of more than EUR 0.5 billion, its highest positive value since the first quarter of 2024.
On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the economy expanded 0.2%, matching the pace recorded in the previous quarter.
